Maria Owen received her Bachelor of Science degree in Geography from the University of Central Arkansas. She is a member of Gamma Theta Upsilon, the International Geographical Honor Society and the American Association of Geographers. She began her career at Pulaski Area Geographic Information Systems, as an intern. There she assisted with data creation and maintenance. She has spent the past 5 years working in Geographic Information Systems. She worked in the Pulaski County Public Works Department where she performed a variety of GIS oriented activities for one of the largest counties in the state. Maria left Pulaski County to continue her career at Marlar Engineering, where she began implementing GIS in an engineering environment. While at ActGeospatial, an Arkansas based company specializing in GIS, she was deeply involved in county road centerline file development for a number of counties and she also functioned as project manager for building parcel data for the Montgomery County Assessor’s Office. This unique blend of experience has positioned very well in her role at the Arkansas Geographic Information Office to support the road centerline and County Assessor Mapping programs.

Maria loves to spend her spare time outdoors, fishing and canoeing.
